Short answer: As of October 13, 2026, the US standard digital edition is listed at $49.99 on both PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. There is no standard-edition price winner at list price. The better buy depends on which hardware you already own, whether portability matters, and whether you can wait for another sale.
This guide compares the US storefronts in US dollars. Prices and promotions vary by country and account region, so check your own store before buying.
Current price snapshot
| Edition / platform | US price checked Oct. 13, 2026 | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Standard, PS5 | $49.99 | Square Enix made this the permanent US standard price in February 2026. |
| Standard, Switch 2 digital | $49.99 | Nintendo’s US store lists $49.99 as the regular price. Its displayed promotion ended October 1. |
| Digital Deluxe, PS5 | $20.99 on promotion | The PlayStation Store showed this offer through October 22. It includes the game, digital art book, mini soundtrack, and in-game items; it is not the same edition as Standard. |
The key correction to older deal coverage is that an expired sale is not a current price. A September PlayStation listing showed a $14.99 promotion ending September 24, while Nintendo’s Switch 2 offer ended October 1. Those dates have passed. The current PS5 Standard listing is back at $49.99; the separate PS5 Digital Deluxe promotion is still active for a limited time when checked. Confirm the price shown on your account’s checkout screen because store offers can change.
Which version is the better value for you?
- You already own a PS5 and usually play on a TV: Start with the PS5 Standard edition at list price. Buying a Switch 2 just to play this one game adds a hardware purchase that the $49.99 game-price comparison does not include.
- You already own a Switch 2 and want to play away from the TV: The Switch 2 version costs the same at regular price and supports handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. Portability is the practical reason to choose it, rather than a lower standard-game price.
- You want the bonus digital content on PS5: The current US Digital Deluxe offer can cost less than the Standard edition, but check the contents and offer end time before purchasing. A sale on one edition does not mean every platform or edition is discounted.
- You are not in a hurry: Wishlist both versions and compare the storefront price again during the next sale. The past promotions show that discounts can be substantial, but they do not establish when or at what price the next one will happen.
If you are unsure whether the long, story-heavy adventure is for you, try the free demo first. Nintendo says its demo covers the opening through Chapter 2 and that eligible demo progress can carry over. That is a useful way to test the pacing and combat before paying full price.
The Switch 2 storage catch
Nintendo lists the digital game file at 91.5 GB. That is a large download, so check free storage before purchasing and leave room for updates and other games. Square Enix says the physical Switch 2 release is a Game-Key Card: the card is required to play, but the game data must still be downloaded. Its store notice calls for an internet connection and at least 130 GB of available storage for that download. In other words, buying the physical card does not avoid the storage or initial-download requirement.
That distinction matters if you are comparing digital and physical prices. A cheaper Game-Key Card is only a real saving if you are comfortable with the download, have enough storage, and can use the card whenever you want to play. The Nintendo product page separately lists the digital file size as 91.5 GB; follow the physical-edition instructions for its larger stated free-space requirement.
Other ways to play
PS5 and Switch 2 are not the only options. Square Enix also lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and PC. If you already own one of those platforms, compare its current store price before buying new hardware. This article focuses on PS5 versus Switch 2 because that is the original comparison, not because those are the only versions.
Platform releases can also receive different updates. Square Enix’s Switch 2 version 1.0.3 notes improved overall stability and fixes for several issues, including a gyroscope-control problem in some minigames. That is a concrete update note, not a claim that one version performs better overall; we have not run controlled performance tests across the systems.
Quick buying checklist
- Set your store country first; this price snapshot is for the US region and excludes any local tax shown at checkout.
- Compare the same edition. Standard and Digital Deluxe include different extras, and current discounts may apply to only one edition.
- Check the offer end date. Do not use an old search snippet or article headline as proof that a sale is still active.
- On Switch 2, confirm storage and download requirements before choosing digital or Game-Key Card.
- Try the free demo if you are undecided, then check the final checkout total on your platform.
