Apple just fixed three of the most annoying things about texting on iPhone — and beta 6 quietly cleaned up two more. Failed texts that needed a manual retry, photo and video sends that blocked every other message, cross-device sync that used to lag or drop: iOS 27 patches all three, plus a header-overlap bug and a keyboard glitch that showed up later in the beta cycle. Two more reports — a black header bar and stuck SMS sends — are still floating around, unconfirmed. iOS 27 itself is still in beta, so treat anything beyond what’s listed here as a rumor until Apple says otherwise.
What we checked ourselves
The figures below were not taken from other articles. We checked them ourselves on 2026-09-14 21:34 KST.
On iOS 27’s release day (2026-09-14), 2 of 5 URLs published directly by Apple returned HTTP 404 — apple.com/ios/ios-27/ and apple.com/ios/ios-27-preview/.
Method: ran curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code} %{url_effective}' -L –max-time 15 <url> directly against 5 official Apple URLs. Redirects were followed with -L. The check time was recorded with the date command.
| URL | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| apple.com/ios/ios-27/ | HTTP 404 | The preview URL pattern used for previous iOS versions; the final destination is also a 404 |
| apple.com/ios/ios-27-preview/ | HTTP 404 | Same |
| apple.com/os/ios/ | HTTP 200 | The iOS landing path Apple currently actually uses (requests to apple.com/ios/ also redirect here) |
| support.apple.com/100100 | HTTP 200 | The security update list page itself is live |
| apple.com/ios/messages/ | HTTP 200 | Redirects to support.apple.com/messages |
Caveat: This is a result checked at a specific point in time from a single macOS machine (this reporting environment). If Apple is rolling the pages out geographically in stages, other regions or time zones may see different responses. Also, these URL 404s were reproduced and verified from a point first raised by a macobserver.com article, not something newly discovered independently.
As of iOS 27’s release day, Apple’s official “security update content” list (support.apple.com/100100) still has no iOS 27 entry — the most recent entry is iOS 26.6.2, dated 2026-09-08.
Method: opened the support.apple.com/en-us/100100 page directly to check whether the list contains an “iOS 27” or “About iOS 27 Updates” entry, and what the most recently listed version is.
At the time of checking (2026-09-14 21:34 KST), the latest entry on the list was iOS 26.6.2 (released 2026-09-08). No security/bug content entry related to iOS 27.
Caveat: this page is one Apple is likely to update within hours to days. Articles must include the caveat “as of the time checked,” since it may have changed by the time readers see it.
The short answer: what’s fixed right now
Three Messages bugs got real fixes in iOS 27, according to 9to5Mac’s Chance Miller and iDropNews’s Jesse Hollington — Hollington tested the beta on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, with a Google Pixel 6 alongside for comparison:
- Failed message auto-retry — no more manual tap to resend
- Continuous sending — photo, video, and text sends no longer block each other
- Cross-device sync — conversations reportedly line up more reliably between iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Two more fixes landed specifically in beta 6, on top of those three:
- Header overlap — a UI bug that made you scroll repeatedly to see pinned chats
- Keyboard failing to appear — previously required a force-quit to fix
That’s five confirmed fixes total. Below is what each one actually changes, plus what’s still shaky.
What was broken before, and what changed
Failed messages used to sit there until you noticed
On iOS 26 and earlier, a failed message just sat in the thread. You had to open Messages, find it, and tap retry yourself. iDropNews described the old behavior bluntly: switch to another app while a message failed, and it stayed failed — nothing happened in the background.
iOS 27 changes that.
Per 9to5Mac, the OS now retries automatically: “iOS 27 will try again until it can.” No tap required. This is a small fix on paper, but if you’ve ever sent a text on a weak signal and forgotten about it, this is the one that matters most day to day.
Sending a photo used to lock the whole conversation
This was the more disruptive bug. Send a photo or video in iOS 26, and a blue progress bar appeared at the top of the screen. Until that bar finished, you couldn’t send anything else — no follow-up text, no second photo. iDropNews put it plainly: messaging itself was effectively locked while a file transferred.
iOS 27 introduces what 9to5Mac and iDropNews both call “continuous sending.” Each message — text, photo, or video — gets its own independent progress indicator. GoTechTor’s beta 6 coverage confirms the same behavior, and two lower-confidence aggregator posts repeat it too — not a fix that shipped once and vanished a build later.
Switching devices used to mean missing messages
The third bug hit anyone using Messages across an iPhone and a Mac. Switch devices, and messages could arrive late, out of order, or not sync at all. 9to5Mac and iDropNews both report that iOS 27 makes sync more reliable between devices.
There’s a catch, and it’s the kind of thing headline-only coverage skips. iDropNews notes you’ll likely need iOS 27 running on all your connected devices to get the benefit — not just your phone. If your Mac is still on an older build, don’t expect the fix to fully kick in. I don’t think that catch is a small footnote, either: people update their iPhone the day a new version drops and let their Mac sit untouched for weeks. If the sync fix genuinely needs both ends updated, that mismatch alone could make the bug look unfixed when it’s really just a stale Mac.
Before vs. after, side by side
| Bug | iOS 26 behavior | iOS 27 behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Failed message resend | Manual retry tap required | Retries automatically in the background |
| Photo/video sending | Blocks all other sends until done | Each send gets its own independent progress bar |
| Cross-device sync | Messages lag, drop, or arrive out of order | Syncs more reliably (needs iOS 27 on all devices) |
| Beta 6 header overlap | Pinned chats overlapped, forcing repeated scrolling | Fixed in beta 6 (August 19, 2026) |
What beta 6 quietly patched
Beta 5 shipped with three separate Messages complaints, according to GoTechTor: the header overlap issue above, a keyboard that sometimes wouldn’t appear at all (forcing a force-quit to recover), and autocorrect that stopped working intermittently.
Beta 6 arrived one week after beta 5, on August 19, 2026. GoTechTor reports two of those three were fixed: the header overlap and the keyboard failing to appear. Normal keyboard behavior is back.
Here’s the gap nobody’s writing about directly. GoTechTor’s own beta 5 list names three bugs. Its beta 6 fix rundown names two. The third — intermittent autocorrect — isn’t mentioned as fixed or unfixed in beta 6 coverage. That’s not the same as saying it’s still broken. Nothing confirms its status either way — worth knowing before you assume beta 6 cleared the whole list.
That’s really the theme across all this reporting: three separate outlets, three overlapping-but-not-identical bug lists, and no single writeup that lines up all five fixes with a before-and-after in one place. Small thing, but it’s the kind of gap that makes people re-report the same three bugs as “new” every time a fresh beta drops.
What’s still unconfirmed or possibly broken
Two more issues are circulating, and I want to be upfront: neither is confirmed the way the five fixes above are.
A “black bar” issue — an odd black bar appearing at the top of Messages — was reported around beta 5. Closing and reopening the app made it disappear temporarily, but it came back. Whether beta 6 actually fixed it isn’t clear — treat it as unresolved for now.
Separately, users report SMS messages still failing to send on recent betas. Same deal: scattered reports, nothing solid enough to call it confirmed.
One more thing that isn’t a bug: RCS support still depends on your carrier and region. That’s an existing policy limit, not something iOS 27 is trying to fix, and it won’t change no matter how many Messages bugs Apple patches.

Workarounds if you’re still stuck
- For sync issues: update every connected device — iPhone, iPad, and Mac — to the iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS 27 beta family. iDropNews suggests this is likely necessary for the sync fix to fully apply.
- For the black bar report: force-quitting and reopening Messages reportedly clears it temporarily, though it may come back. This is unconfirmed, beta-only, and not a guaranteed fix.
- For stuck SMS sends: unconfirmed forum reports mention toggling “Resend as Text Message” or switching iMessage off and back on. It’s a maybe, not a fix.
None of these three are official Apple guidance. They’re what’s circulating among beta testers, nothing more.

How to check if you’re running the fix
Go to Settings > General > Software Update and see whether iOS 27 is available and installed. That’s the standard path Apple uses for every update, beta or not — nothing special about this release changes that step.

FAQ
Is iOS 27 officially out yet? No. As of beta 6 on August 19, 2026, it’s still in beta. A public release alongside new iPhone hardware in September 2026 has been mentioned by two lower-confidence sources, but Apple hasn’t confirmed a release date, so treat that timing as a rumor.
Does iOS 27 fix RCS messaging problems? No. RCS availability is still tied to your carrier and region. That’s a separate, ongoing limitation — not one of the bugs iOS 27 targets.
Do I need iOS 27 on every device to fix the sync bug? Likely yes. iDropNews reports the sync improvement probably requires all your connected devices — iPhone, iPad, Mac — to be running iOS 27 (or the matching iPadOS/macOS 27 beta) for it to fully work.
Were all three beta 5 Messages bugs fixed in beta 6? Two confirmed — the header overlap and the keyboard not appearing. The third, intermittent autocorrect, isn’t mentioned either way in beta 6 coverage, so its status is genuinely unclear.
What to watch next
The pattern so far is fast, incremental patching — beta 6 landed just a week after beta 5, and it cleared two of three known complaints. If that pace holds, I’d expect the black bar and SMS reports to get resolved or at least addressed before iOS 27 goes public, whenever that ends up being. What I’m watching for next is whether Apple’s release notes, once we get an actual public build, mention the autocorrect bug at all — its total absence from beta 6 coverage is the loose thread nobody’s tied off yet.
